Individual Post/Page Settings

Here’s a list of where to find documentation on the All in One SEO Settings for individual posts / pages:

All in One SEO section on Edit Post screen

Preview Snippet

The Preview Snippet shows you how your Post or Page may look in search engines based on the SEO Title Tag and Meta Description you have entered.  If you edit the Title and Description settings in the fields below the Preview Snippet and click Publish or Update, the Preview Snippet will be updated to reflect your new Title and Description.  This is a rough approximation of how your Post/Page may look in search engines, it does not reflect any rich snippet information that may be included in search results.

Title

The Title field is where you enter your SEO Title Tag that will be used for this Post or Page.  The SEO Title Tag of your Post/Page will appear in the top of the browser and in the source code of your page between the <title> tags.  This is the title that search engines may display in their search results as the link to your site so it is important to keep this simple (60 characters or less) and relevant.  There is a character counter that counts the characters as you type to help you stay below the 60 characters.

If you do not enter anything in this field, All in One SEO will automatically generate the Title Tag for you using the Post/Page Title.  You can see the autogenerated title in this field when it is empty.

Bear in mind that whatever you enter in this field will be formatted as per the settings in the relevant Title Format fields in the Title Settings box on the General Settings screen of All in One SEO. See the documentation on Title Settings.

Description

The Description field is where you enter your Meta Description that will be used for this Post or Page.  This is the description that the search engines may display in their search results, it will show beneath the Title in search results.  Keep the description less than 160 characters and make sure it is relevant.  There is a character counter that counts the characters as you type to help you stay below the 160 characters.

If you do not enter anything in this field, and if you have Autogenerate Descriptions enabled under All in One SEO » General Settings » Advanced Settings, All in One SEO will automatically generate the Meta Description for you using either the Post Excerpt or the first 160 characters from the Post or Page content.  You can see the autogenerated description in this field when it is empty.

The Meta Description is a suggestion, some search engines such as Google may create their own description of your content and display that in the search results instead of your Meta Description.

Keywords

The Keywords field is where you enter your Meta Keywords that will be used for this Post or Page.  Meta Keywords hold little or no value in today's SEO.  This post from Matt Cutts at Google explains why they no longer value them.  However, you may feel differently and wish to use them.  If you do wish to use Meta Keywords be sure to keep them at a reasonable level and include only the words and phrases which are relevant to your Post/Page.  Use commas to separate each keyword.

If you do not enter anything in this field, and if you have Use Categories for Meta Keywords and/or Use Tags for Meta Keywords enabled under All in One SEO » General Settings » Keyword Settings, All in One SEO will automatically generate the Meta Keywords for you using either the categories and/or tags for this Post (works for Posts only).  You can see the autogenerated keywords in this field when it is empty.

Custom Canonical URL

You can paste a URL into this field which will be used as your canonical URL for this Post or Page.  Make sure you paste the full URL including the HTTP or HTTPS.

This setting is designed for advanced users who understand canonical URLs and the implications of changing the canonical URL.

Robots Meta NOINDEX

NOINDEX is a meta tag that can be displayed to search robots that requests them not to index content.  The specific directive differs between each search robot.  For example, the directive it gives Google's search robots is Do not show this Post/Page in search results and do not show a "Cached" link in search results.  Other search robots' interpretations may be different.

Check this box only if you DO NOT want search engines to index this Post or Page.
