We are frequently asked how to get those nice looking search results with the additional information such as star rating and price like the example below:

These are called rich snippets and you get these by adding Schema markup to your content. Bing, Google and Yandex use this markup to present these rich snippets in their search results.

Schema Markup in All in One SEO

All in One SEO outputs Schema.org markup using a format called JSON-LD. Below is a list of the markup we add on all Pages, Posts, Custom Post Types, Categories, Tags, Custom Taxonomies, Media Attachments, Date and Author Archives, as well as on the 404 page and search results page:

Content Specific Markup

All in One SEO uses the following content specific information to generate our Schema markup:

  • The title of your Post, Page, Category, or Tag
  • The SEO Description or the content (or post excerpt) from your Page or Post
  • The Featured Image and image caption from your Page or Post
  • The language set for your content (as specified in the HTML lang tag)
  • The categories and tags assigned to your Posts
  • The SEO Keywords assigned to your Posts
  • The Facebook profile for the author of your Page or Post (enabled using Show Facebook Author)
  • The Twitter profile or the author of your Page or Post (enabled using Show Twitter Author)

If so, this article will walk you through the steps to configuring Schema in All in One SEO.

Knowledge Graph Settings

To get started, click on Search Appearance in the All in One SEO menu.

On the Global Settings tab, scroll down to the Knowledge Graph section.

You’ll see fields for Website Name and Alternate Website Name.

The Website Name field will default to the name you’ve entered in the Site Title field under Settings » General in WordPress. You can replace it with another name if you wish.

The Alternate Website Name field can be used to enter any alternate name you have for your site.

Google may use the Website Name or Alternate Website Name in mobile search results.

Person or Organization

Next, you’ll see is Person or Organization.

Use this option to select whether your website or blog is for a person or for an organization. Based on the selection here, additional fields will be displayed as detailed below.

If you selected Organization you will see the following fields:

  • In the Name field, enter the name of your organization or business
  • In the Phone Number field, enter the phone number for your business you’d like listed on search engines
  • In the Contact Type field, select the type that best describes the Phone Number you entered
  • In the Logo field, upload the logo for your organization or business. The image MUST be a minimum size of 112px by 112px and must be in JPEG, PNG, SVG, WEBP, or GIF format. The image URL MUST be crawlable and indexable. If you don’t set a logo here, All in One SEO will use the logo set in your theme (if there is one).

Person Settings

If you selected Person you will see the following fields:

  • In the Choose a Person field, choose the primary owner for your site from the list of users. Only users with the role of Author, Editor, or Administrator will be listed here
  • You can also select Manually Enter Person from the drop down and then complete the Name and Logo fields
  • In the Name field, enter the name of the primary owner for your site
  • In the Logo field, upload an image of the primary owner for your site. The image MUST be a minimum size of 112px by 112px and must be in jpg, png, or gif format. The image URL MUST be crawlable and indexable.

Now that we’ve configured the main Knowledge Graph settings, we can move on to the settings for each content type.

Content Specific Schema Settings

In the All in One SEO menu, click on Search Appearance and then click on the Content Types tab.

Here you’ll see sections for each of the types of content on your site such as Posts, Pages, etc.

Click on the Schema Markup tab in each section to configure Schema for that type of content.

The first setting is for Schema Type. Use this drop down to select the type that best describes this content.

For example, for your Posts, the type that best matches would be Article. For your Pages, the type that best matches would be Web Page.

Depending on what you select, you may see an additional setting. Use this to select which type best describes this content.

You can repeat these steps for each of your content types listed on the Content Types tab.

Setting the Schema Type for Individual Content

Now that you’ve set the default Schema Types for your content, you may need to set additional Schema information in your content.

If you’ve selected one of the following Schema Types for your content then you can configure these by editing your content:

Following on from our article about Configuring the Schema Settings in All in One SEO, this article shows you how to override the default Schema Types on individual content.

The instructions in this article apply to Posts, Pages, and any Custom Post Types.

To get started, edit your content and scroll down to the AIOSEO Settings section, then click on the Schema tab.

Click the Generate Schema button to see the Schema Types that are available.

Click the Add Schema icon to apply it to your content.

You can add multiple Schema Types to your content.

Click the Edit icon to configure that Schema Type.

Click the Delete icon next to a Schema Type to remove it.

That’s all! You’ve now set the Schema Types for an individual item of content.

Did you know that you can add your own custom Schema markup with All in One SEO?

Not only can you use one of the many Schemas available in All in One SEO but you can add your own custom markup to describe your content.

To get started, edit your content and scroll down to the AIOSEO Settings section, then click on the Schema tab.

Click on the Generate Schema button to open the Schema Generator window.

Click on the Custom Schema tab and you’ll see the editor where you can add your own Schema markup.

You can paste your Schema markup in JSON-LD format into the editor. All in One SEO will validate the markup to ensure there are no errors.

Be sure to enter a name for your custom schema graph.

Click the Add Schema button to save this Schema and apply it to your content.

Google has examples of each of the JSON-LD Schema markup that they user. You can find these by clicking on the Get started button next to each Schema type in this article.

You can also save this as a template which you can use on other content by clicking the Save as Template button.

Did you know that you can create Schema templates in All in One SEO that you can use on your content?

All in One SEO makes it easy to save templates that can be used on your content, saving you from repeating steps on each item of content.

Creating a Schema Template

To get started, edit your content and scroll down to the AIOSEO Settings section, then click on the Schema tab.

Click on the Generate Schema button to open the Schema Generator.

Select any Schema from the Schema Catalog and complete the fields. You can find articles on how to set up each Schema here.

Once you’ve completed the fields, click the Save Schema as Template button.

Enter a unique name for your template and click on the Save Template button.

Accessing Saved Schema Templates

You can access your saved templates by clicking on the Generate Schema button to open the Schema Generator window and then click on the Your Templates tab.

Click the Add Schema icon to apply it to your content.

You can add multiple Schema Types to your content.

Click on the Edit Template icon to edit your template.

Make your changes to the template and then click the Update Template button to save your changes.

When you’re editing a template, click the Delete Template button to delete it.

You may have seen the Knowledge Panel in search results and wondered how search engines get that information. You may not be familiar with the Knowledge Panel or paid much attention to it.

Here we’ll discuss what the Knowledge Panel is and how to get your social media profiles displayed in it.

What is the Knowledge Panel?

The Knowledge Panel is a generic term for a panel that may appear in the right sidebar of search results. It typically contains some rich information relevant to your search term.

Here’s three examples of a Knowledge Panel which appear in Google, Bing and Yandex.

Notice all the rich information shown in the Knowledge Panel examples above. This information comes from a variety of sources.

Here we’ll focus on just the social media links you see in two of the examples above.

Adding Your Social Media Profiles in All in One SEO

The first step in adding your social media profiles is to go to Social Networks in the All in One SEO menu.

You’ll now see the Social Profiles screen where you can enter the URLs for your social media profiles. These will be used site-wide for all content authors.

You’ll see fields for all of the most popular social media networks.

Enter the full URL for your social media profile in each field as shown below.

If you use the same profile name for multiple social media networks, then All in One SEO can save you time.

To do this, enable the Use the same username for multiple social networks setting by checking the checkbox.

Once you enable the Use the same username for multiple social networks setting you’ll see a Your Username field.

Enter your profile name in the Your Username field and select the checkboxes for the social media networks you use this profile name for.

All in One SEO will then fill in the social profile URL fields with your profile for you.

Adding Social Media Profiles For Each Content Author

You can also add the social media profiles for each author on your site.

To do this, go to Users in the WordPress menu and edit any user. Then click on the Social Profiles tab at the top of the Edit User screen.

You’ll now see the Social Profiles screen where you can enter the URLs for your social media profiles for this user.

You’ll see fields for all of the most popular social media networks.

Enter the full URL for your social media profile in each field as shown below.

If you use the same profile name for multiple social media networks, then All in One SEO can save you time.

To do this, enable the Use the same username for multiple social networks setting by checking the checkbox.

Once you enable the Use the same username for multiple social networks setting you’ll see a Your Username field.

Enter your profile name in the Your Username field and select the checkboxes for the social media networks you use this profile name for.

All in One SEO will then fill in the social profile URL fields with your profile for you.

Adding Additional Social Media Profiles

Do you have any additional social media profiles you’d like to enter that aren’t included in our list of default social media networks?

You can add these in the Additional Profiles box at the bottom of the page. Any social media URL you enter will be automatically included in our Knowledge Panel schema.

Common examples of additional social media platforms our users want to include are:

  • TikTok
  • Telegram
  • Snapchat
  • Reddit
  • Vkontakte (VK)
  • WeChat
  • Seina Weibo
  • Tencent QQ
  • Kuaishou

Are you looking to get your business listed in local search results?

This article will help you use our Local Business SEO add-on to manage how your business appears on search engines.

Our Local Business SEO add-on outputs code known as Schema.org structured data markup that provides search engines with detailed information about your business.

Search engines then use this code to display rich results that may include information such as your address, phone and email contact information, opening hours, as well as other useful information.

This can be displayed in the side bar area of search results as a Knowledge Graph card (seen in the example to the right) or in other formats.

To get started, click on Local SEO in the All in One SEO menu. You may need to activate the Local SEO feature by clicking the Activate Local SEO button.

You should now see the Local SEO settings.

Locations Settings

The first section you’ll see is Location Settings.

Here you can enable Multiple Locations if your business has more than one location. You can learn more about Local Business SEO for Multiple Locations here.

Business Info

The next section is Business Info. Here’s where you’ll enter your business information if you only have one location and Multiple Locations is set to No.

This section will not appear if you have Multiple Locations is set to Yes.

The first setting in the Business Info section is Name. Enter the name of your business here.

The next setting is Image. You can upload an image, select an image from your Media Library, or paste in the URL for an image that represents your business such as a logo or photo of the outside or inside of your business premises.

Next is the Type setting. Select the most appropriate type from the drop down.

Next, enter the primary address for your business in the Address fields.

You can use the Address Format field to set the format of your address when it’s displayed on your site using the widget, block, shortcode or PHP tag.

Use the smart tags shown above the field to add each part of your address in the format you want it displayed on your site.

Next, you can mark the location of your business on the map.

Enter the address in the Enter a query field and your location will be displayed on the map. You’ll need to set up the Google Maps API Key here in order to do this.

Next, you can optionally enter the primary email address, phone number and fax number (if you have them) in the Contact Info fields.

Phone and fax numbers can be typed normally without any brackets or hyphens.

If you have a VAT number or Tax ID, you can optionally enter them in the IDs fields.

Next, use the Price Indicator and Currencies Accepted drop downs to select the appropriate level for your prices and the currencies you accept. You can also list which payment methods you accept in the Payment Methods Accepted field. Payment methods can be added as a list separated by a comma.

Next, you can enter the list of areas you serve in the Area Served field. You can enter a list of cities, postal codes or other information related to the areas you serve here, separated by a comma.

Once you’ve completed the Business Info tab, click the Save Changes button at the top or bottom of the screen.

Opening Hours

Now that you’ve completed the Business Info tab, click on the Opening Hours tab to set the days and times your business is open.

The first setting is the Show Opening Hours toggle, set this to Yes and click the Save Changes button if you want to set and display opening hours for your business.

Next, you’ll see the Display Info section where you can choose whether you want to use a widget, shortcode, block or PHP code to display your opening hours on your site.

Next, you’ll see the Labels section where you can set the text that will be displayed if you’ve set opening hours for any day to either Open 24h or Closed.

Next, you can use the Open 24/7 toggle to select if your business is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can use the Use 24h format toggle to select whether you want to use the 24 hour format when setting opening and closing hours.

Finally, you’ll see settings for each day of the week where you can set the opening hours.

Use the drop downs to select what time your business opens and closes each day. You can use the checkboxes to set if your business is open 24 hours or closed on a specific day.

Once you’ve completed the settings for each day of the week, click the Save Changes button at the top or bottom of the screen.

Congratulations! You’ve now configured the Local Business SEO add-on.

Did you know that All in One SEO Pro lets you add Schema markup for articles?

This provides search engines with more detailed information about your news articles or blog posts so that they can display a rich snippet in search results.

Setting the Default Schema Type for all Articles

To set the default Schema Type for your articles, click on Search Appearance in the All in One SEO menu, then click on the Content Types tab.

Scroll down to the section for your blog posts or news articles and click on the Schema Markup tab.

Now select Article in the Schema Type drop down and click the Save Changes button.

In the Article Type setting, select the option that best describes your content.

Setting the Schema Type for Individual Articles

To set the Schema Type for individual content, edit your content and scroll down to the AIOSEO Settings section, then click on the Schema tab.

Now, click the Generate Schema button to open the Schema Generator.

You’ll see the Schema Types that are available.

Click the Add Schema icon next to Article to add it.

You can now edit the schema information.

Once done, click the Add Schema button to add the schema to the post.

The Article schema has now been added to the post.

If you would like to edit any of the schema properties or delete the graph, click the Edit Schema or Delete Schema buttons in the graph card.

Configuring the Article Specific Information

When you click on Article as the Schema Type for your content, you’ll see a screen with additional fields where you can enter your article information.

Complete the fields as described below:

  • Type – Select the type of article. The Blog Post and News Article types are more specific than the generic Article type.
  • Name – Enter the title of your article. By default, this is set to your post title.
  • Headline – Enter the headline of your article. By default, this is set to your post title.
  • Description – Enter the description of your article. By default, this is set to your article content.
  • Image – Select or upload an image that represents your article. You can also paste in the URL for an image into this field. By default, this is set to your featured image.
  • Keywords – Enter one or multiple keywords that describe what your article is about.

In the Author section, you can enter the name of the author of the article.

You can also enter a URL for the author’s dedicated page. If you don’t have a page for the author, then you can leave this field blank.

In the Dates section, you can enter the publish and last modified date of the article.

If you want to prevent search engines from displaying the article’s dates in their search results, then you do so by setting the Include Dates toggle to No.

Once you’ve completed the fields, click the Add Schema button to save them.

You can also save this as a template which you can use on other articles by clicking the Save Schema as Template button.

Did you know that All in One SEO Pro lets you add Schema markup for books?

This means that search engines can display rich snippets for your book like the example below.

Setting the Schema Type for Individual Books

To set the Schema Type for individual content, edit your content and scroll down to the AIOSEO Settings section, then click on the Schema tab.

Now, click the Generate Schema button to open the Schema Generator.

You’ll see the Schema Types that are available.

Click the Add Schema icon next to Book to add it.

You can now edit the schema information.

Once done, click the Add Schema button to add the schema to the post.

The Book schema has now been added to the post.

If you would like to edit any of the schema properties or delete the graph, click the Edit Schema or Delete Schema buttons in the graph card.

Configuring the Book Specific Information

When you click on Book as the Schema Type for your content, you’ll see a popup with additional fields where you can enter your book information.

Complete the fields as described below:

  • Title – Enter the title of the book. By default, this is set to your post title.
    • Description – Enter the description of the book, By default, this is set to your post content.
  • Author – Enter the name of the book author.
  • Image – Select or upload an image of the book. You can also paste in the URL for an image into this field.

In the Edition section, you can set the following:

  • Title – Enter the edition title.
  • Book Edition – Enter the edition (number).
  • Author – Enter the name of the edition author.
  • ISBN – Enter the ISBN for the edition.
  • Book Format – Select the format for the edition.
  • Date Published – Enter the publish date for the edition.

Click on the Add Another Edition link to add more editions for the book.

Click the Delete button to delete an edition of the book.

Once you’ve completed the fields, click the Add Schema button to save them.

You can also save this as a template which you can use on other books by clicking the Save Schema as Template button.
