BUT, when I run the standard get_the_title function, it returns the WP page/post title which can be/often is different than the title entered via aioseo!

For example, let’s say I create a new page and name it “Contact” and then follow any of the steps outlined in this article. The get_the_title function will simply return “Contact” instead of what the actual title of the page is (as set/entered via aioseo).

Hi Beth, thanks for your comment. If you’re changing the SEO title on an already published blog post, you’ll have to click the “Update” button to effect the changes.
